Screen Shot 2015-01-08 at 13.54.40The new national ‘No Llame’ (Don’t Call) database launched on Tuesday, allowing Argentines to opt out of receiving calls and text messages regarding sales and other offers.

Telemarketers have 30 days to remove the numbers from their databases and are prohibited from calling those who have registered.

The Ministry of Justice initiative was greeted with enthusiasm, with 100,308 users registering their mobile and fixed telephone numbers within 24 hours of the service going live.

Users can register their numbers by calling the freephone 146 or via the website www.nollame.gob.ar and going to “registrar mi número”. After completing the relevant information, an email confirmation will be sent and with a click to confirm the registered number will be in the system for two years. Users can opt back in at any point during the two year period. Users can also report violations by companies on the same website.

Public service campaigns, including weather warnings or alerts of catastrophes such as earthquakes, are excluded from the initiative.
